Release Notes

Legacy product and open-source update

Sighthound Video is a legacy product that is no longer under active development. It is available free of charge and community-supported. Sighthound does not provide regular bug fixes or feature updates for this product.

Existing purchased licenses do not expire. Source code and community discussion are available at https://github.com/sighthoundinc/SighthoundVideo. For critical issues, contact support through the Sighthound website; responses are provided on a best-effort basis.

This article is retained as a historical record of legacy Sighthound Video desktop releases. The latest packaged legacy release is Sighthound Video 7.0.16. The macOS audio playback crash warning for 7.0.16 remains important and should not be removed.

Sighthound Video 7.0.16 - January 5, 2022

Requirement: Sighthound Video 7.0.16 requires macOS 10.15 Catalina or later, or Windows 10 or later.

Known issue: macOS audio playback crash (Windows is unaffected)

We are aware of a crash that can occur when playing video clips with audio enabled in Sighthound Video on macOS.

If you are using macOS and need to hear audio in your video clips, do not install this release.
If you are using macOS and do not need audio, mute audio in Sighthound Video before upgrading to this version and keep it muted until the next release is available. To do this, open the Search tab in Sighthound Video and click the speaker icon in the bottom-right corner to mute audio playback.

Sighthound Video 7.0.12 - June 18, 2021

Requirement: Sighthound Video 7.0 requires macOS 10.14 Mojave or later, or Windows 10 or later.

Changed: Minor DiskCleaner performance improvement.
Fixed: VideoToolbox acceleration is disabled on macOS because of a crash in core Apple libraries.
Fixed: Video playback windows sometimes remained visible when switching from one view to another (Windows only).
Fixed: Push notifications could be delayed by up to 60 seconds.
Fixed: Some USB webcams could cause a crash on macOS.
Fixed: The “Check for Updates” button did not work.

Sighthound Video 7.0.10 - March 18, 2021

Requirement: Sighthound Video 7.0 requires macOS 10.14 Mojave or later, or Windows 10 or later.

Fixed: Startup failure on Windows systems using localized UIs, specifically Russian.
Fixed: Failure to stream clips remotely with altered quality on systems with available hardware acceleration.
Fixed: Incorrect aspect ratio for recording in the free version.

Sighthound Video 7.0.8 Beta - February 23, 2021

Fixed: Remote access could remain stuck on “Starting” after first-time or clean installations of Sighthound Video 7 on Windows.

Sighthound Video 7.0.7 Beta - February 16, 2021

Requirement: Sighthound Video 7.0 requires macOS 10.14 Mojave or later, or Windows 10.

Fixed: The displayed resolution of the currently selected camera in Monitor View could degrade over time.
Fixed: A Rule Editor bug could result in an incorrect rule-area specification.
Fixed: Changing the resolution of remote clips from Original could prevent them from being viewed remotely.
Fixed: Computer Vision object classification could intermittently fail, causing objects to appear as “unknown.”

Sighthound Video 5.1.6 (r17335) - January 23, 2018

Full-screen camera viewing now exits only with Enter, Esc, or a mouse click to prevent accidental dismissal.
Clips from all camera streams should operate correctly at 16x playback speed.
Fixed a rare macOS UI crash caused by mouse input.
Fixed a possible database lockup on systems with extreme amounts of activity across many cameras.
Fixed a bug that could cause rules to occasionally not load when activating a new license.

Sighthound Video 5.0 (r17093) - July 5, 2017

Desktop Application

Added a new Grid View that displays live streams in any order, layout, and frame rate, with quick keyboard navigation.
Sighthound Video is now a 64-bit application.

Remote Access

Added adaptive quality control for live streams, with dynamic resolution and bitrate based on connection speed.
Added much faster live-stream connections.
Web access now has an improved dynamic layout, significant speed improvements, and expanded HTML5 playback support.

Windows

Added support for recording most PCM audio streams.

Upgrade notes: A 64-bit OS is required. Sighthound Video 5.0 will not run in 32-bit environments. The minimum macOS version is now OS X 10.10 Yosemite. If you are running OS X 10.11 El Capitan, you must use 10.11.4 or newer. Because of the switch to 64-bit, you may need to reconfigure firewall rules.

Sighthound Video 4.0.4 (r16925) - June 8, 2017

Fixed a bug that prevented automatic port opening on macOS.
Fixed a bug that caused responses to not always fire properly for certain region rules.
Fixed a number of errors that could occur on systems using non-ASCII characters.
Fixed an intermittent camera crash.
Correctly connects to a set of MJPEG cameras with broken multipart MIME implementations.

Sighthound Video 4.0.2 (r16844) - February 8, 2017

Fixed an issue where responses were occasionally triggered multiple times for the same event.

Sighthound Video 4.0 (r16721) - December 23, 2016

Sighthound Video 4 has been re-architected to significantly improve performance when recording from H.264 sources. In these cases, the software uses, on average, 60% less CPU than version 3.0, even when recording at a full 30 frames per second.

For H.264 IP cameras

Added audio support for cameras that use the AAC codec.
Significantly improved CPU performance when recording H.264 streams.
Reduced disk bandwidth and file storage size for most streams.
Video is recorded at the full frame rate, no longer limited to 10 fps.
