Legacy product and open-source update
Sighthound Video is a legacy product that is no longer under active development. It is available free of charge and community-supported. Sighthound does not provide regular bug fixes or feature updates for this product.
Existing purchased licenses do not expire. Source code and community discussion are available at https://github.com/sighthoundinc/SighthoundVideo. For critical issues, contact support through the Sighthound website; responses are provided on a best-effort basis.
This article is retained as a historical record of legacy Sighthound Video desktop releases. The latest packaged legacy release is Sighthound Video 7.0.16. The macOS audio playback crash warning for 7.0.16 remains important and should not be removed.
Sighthound Video 7.0.16 - January 5, 2022
Requirement: Sighthound Video 7.0.16 requires macOS 10.15 Catalina or later, or Windows 10 or later.
Known issue: macOS audio playback crash (Windows is unaffected)
We are aware of a crash that can occur when playing video clips with audio enabled in Sighthound Video on macOS.
- If you are using macOS and need to hear audio in your video clips, do not install this release.
- If you are using macOS and do not need audio, mute audio in Sighthound Video before upgrading to this version and keep it muted until the next release is available. To do this, open the Search tab in Sighthound Video and click the speaker icon in the bottom-right corner to mute audio playback.

Upgrade notes: A 64-bit OS is required. Sighthound Video 5.0 will not run in 32-bit environments. The minimum macOS version is now OS X 10.10 Yosemite. If you are running OS X 10.11 El Capitan, you must use 10.11.4 or newer. Because of the switch to 64-bit, you may need to reconfigure firewall rules.

Sighthound Video 4.0 (r16721) - December 23, 2016
Sighthound Video 4 has been re-architected to significantly improve performance when recording from H.264 sources. In these cases, the software uses, on average, 60% less CPU than version 3.0, even when recording at a full 30 frames per second.
