Problems uploading clips to an FTP site
Saving clips to an FTP site is a feature supported by the Basic, Home and Pro editions. If you set up a rule to send clips to an FTP site, then all clips generated by that rule should appear on your FTP site.
If you can't get any video clips to upload the first time you set up a rule, some steps to try:
- Click the Test button in the Set up FTP dialog. This sends a test file to your FTP site and confirms the file was uploaded. If this succeeds, the settings you entered should be correct.
- Some FTP servers may have problems with non-ASCII characters in the directory name or your rule name. Avoid symbols other than basic letters and numbers.
If you want to troubleshoot FTP problems, select FTP Status from the Tools menu:
The time next to "Last clip uploaded to FTP site" tells you the start time of the most recent video clip sent to your FTP site. This should match the time displayed for the last clip in the Search view when you select the rule name in the quick search filter list. The number of clips waiting to be uploaded is normally 0.
If there are clips waiting to be uploaded, it may be because:
- Your FTP site is down for extended periods of time, or your external Internet connection to the FTP site is down. Check to see if you can access your FTP site using your browser or FTP software. If so, the problem may have been temporary, which means clips waiting to be uploaded eventually will be uploaded.
- You are trying to upload more data than your network connection can support, which can cause your clips to become backlogged. Note that your upload bandwidth (sending files somewhere on the Internet) is not necessarily the same as your download bandwidth (getting files from the Internet). If this is your problem, try modifying your rule to capture more specific events.
- You have exceeded the capacity of your FTP account. Some sites will generate error messages if you click the Test button in the Rule Editor. For other sites, Sighthound Video may not have any idea that the files are not being uploaded. To be sure, log in to your FTP site and check to see if you are at or near your maximum capacity.
